QUESTIONS WITH QU’EST-CE QUE

To ask for the identity of a direct object that is a thing (what), use the expression qu'est-ce que (combination of que and est-ce que). No inversion is necessary.

You may ask the same questions by inverting subject and verb, as in Que prenez-vous? ("What will you have/take?") and Qu’avez-vous? ("What’s wrong with you?").
